Week 3 ~ MTC Food Conspiracy

I have a theory that the MTC food is purposely rough on your stomach to get you prepared for the food in the field. Because let me tell ya, my stomach has been in rough condition thus far.

Anyway, Hello everyone! Elder Spackman coming at you. This week has been really fun, as well as being the most confusing week of my life. So much has happened so I'm sorry if this email is a little bit longer than usual.

Funny things: The first floor is full of disobedient missionaries. As my district leader calls it "The Great Spacious Building". It's seriously like some Arizona State dorms down there. They threw something called the "Last supper", where they stole a ton of microwaves from the other districts and had the most amount of Ramen I've ever seen. All the tables in the first floor were put in the hallway and the trash cans were overflowing. They were also blasting Roddy Rich and other inappropriate music that they shouldn't be playing, however on the bright side my district has had such a good laugh joking about it.

Spiritual thoughts: I forgot who said it, but they said "as missionaries it's easier to tell when you don't have spirit then when you do", I agree, because the Spirit is everywhere here. Elder Holland gave an amazing talk about how Peter denied Jesus three times. Peter pretty much is goofing off fishing after Jesus died and isn't having any success, when he sees someone calling to him from the shore. It's a long story so I'll just summarize, Jesus tells Peter that he should be out preaching the word of God if he loves Jesus instead of fishing, and that's why when Jesus asked Peter if he loved him and Peter said "Yes", he kept asking. Then he explained what I just said. I really love this, even If you aren't on a mission, Jesus still wants you to preach the word of God by the way you act, treat others, and treat yourself. I just thought that was an interesting thought.

My district is amazing, we all do a district prayer every single night and we travel as a group everywhere despite having 13 missionaries. Elder Lum is our District Leader, which isn't a surprise because he carries such a spirit with him. The Spirit is strong and even though the language is so difficult and has so many rules, the Spirit is teaching me. My companion is also a genius, so that really helps.

Lowlights: The food here is getting old, and it upsets everyone's stomach. Like it's not awful, but it's just mid. I woke up last night at 2am because the food was doing work on my stomach.

Tagalog is extremely difficult, it's definitely one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Two hours of studying to write a basic sentence, because all the rules and the vocabulary aren't close to English or Spanish at all.

Thank you for reading all of this, the MTC is amazing and if you're on the fence of serving a mission, you totally should. Every day is a blessing here and even though I was nervous before this, all of that feeling is gone. God's amazing, the Spirit is strong, Serve a Mission!
