Week 44 ~ Someone tried to scam us (worst scammer ever)

So what happened was we were sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tricey because my companion had lost his name tag. All the sudden this dude on a motorcycle pulls up and says to us ''Mormon kayo di ba'' (You are mormons, right?) and we are like no, that's just a nickname people have given us, but we are really missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. Then he says to us, ''you know, I'm the chief of education in 9 villages'' and by this time, my companion had already picked up on his scam, but I was clueless cause there is nothing like this in America. My companion smartly asks him, ''Do you know Sam Barlow'' and the guy responds ''yes of course''. Now the funny part about that is ''Sam Barlow'' is the name of my companion's first trainer, so this guy was just lying to us pretty much. Then my companion embarrassed him and said ''Hey since you're so well known, let's take a picture together'' and so now we have a picture of a scammer. Apparently his scam was that he was going to try to get us to pay him money for our church's property. Pero ang bobo niya at hindi kami bobo. Anyway that's it for the fun story.

I heard Calder got married this Saturday so a super special shoutout to my best friend. I'm so proud of him and I wish I could have attended the reception.  Luckily my parents filled in for me. Have a great week, buddy!

Spiritual thought: This email is kinda long so my spiritual thought has to do with being slow to anger. For me in my mission, to be honest, it has sometimes been a struggle for me. There are a lot of things that sometimes arouse my anger on my mission, such as the language, the people, the rules, or my companion. I'm not talking really about true anger, but maybe more on the feeling of being upset at something. But recently I listened to the last talk of Prophet Gordon B Hinckley titled ''Slow to Anger''. I invite all of you to listen to it and contemplate it. It was the last talk the prophet ever gave, and it was a good one.

Have a great week,
Elder Spackman
