Week 65 ~ Six Food Appointments?
We had the craziest food day on new year's day, But let's start with the why it happened:
Here in the Philippines food is kinda considered sacred. For example, if someone is eating it's considered very disrespectful in the culture to interrupt them. Like if we are home-to-home knocking and we see someone eating, we aren't allowed to knock. Also, if they offer food or a lunch appointment, it's also super disrespectful to decline. So what happened is on new year's day literally everyone invited us over. Sooooo it means we literally ate food the whole day. I'm not joking at all. Six meals, and I almost threw up but I made it. Cause keep in mind Fillipinos eat rice with every meal, and they stack the plate not you. We didn't tell them that we are coming from food, so I probably had around 12 plates cause my dad taught me as a missionary you always ask for seconds. Anyway it was a fun new year's day haha. When I looked at my stomach in the mirror at night you woulda thought I was pregnant. It was like Elder Ward in the Manila MTC (IFYKYK)
Anyway one the spiritual side of things we answered someone's prayer:
There is a sister named Catherine, and her and her children are the members in the family. The father is not. However, he is still kind and supportive. This family has a really hard life, and last month the tatay (Father) lost his job. Sister Catherine also doesn't have a job so they have no money for food, going to church, or school. They even had to sell their shampo so that they could have rice for food.
We've been trying to help them find a job, however because we are missionaries we have limited connections. Luckily, a miracle happened and a member had a job opening, so we quickly went and told sister Cathy about it. When we went to her house, she told us how she prayed last night about finding a job to provide for her family. Pretty cool na answer po namin para sa kanyang panalangnan.
Have a great week,
Elder Spackman
