Spiritual stuffs:
This week I was given the opportunity to give a talk on agency. I chose to highlight 2 nephi 2:22-27 because this verse explains 3 questions. 1: where our agency comes from. 2: Why we have agency. 3: How to use our agency.
I highly recommend that you reread these BOM verses because they are powerful and very theologically inspiring. For example, a common issue I've heard with Atheists to Christians is that God forces us to obey him, and if we disobey him we go to hell/Eternal punishment. How could this God be all loving and good? Why do children suffer? Why do some people get terminal diseases like cancer and slowly suffer? Why doesn't God step in and save them?
The answer to these hard hitting and heavy questions can be found in Abraham 3 verse 26:
26 And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.
Pretty much the way our theology side steps this issue is through the concept of us having agency, not only right now; but before we existed as humans. We chose to come here, knowing in this mortal state we could die. In turn, as a consequence, through the atonement of Jesus Christ, we all could be saved and gain eternal glory. God knows the way for us to grow is through obedience, but with obedience comes temptation and suffering. If I could sit down with an atheist, I'd ask them what is evil? Is it objective and if it isn't, where does it come from? Our Morality is from God, and I know it's true. Logically, and spiritually you also can study and find it to be true.
Sorry for the theological yapping, I'll see y'all next week!!!
