Week 71 ~ Opening a New Island
Alright everybody week two on the island, and we have some good news. So if you go on google maps and see Batan Island, to the right side of the island is another island. This island is called Rapu-Rapu and pretty much the missionaries have never been there. This is because travel is expensive, and people can't usually afford it every Sunday. So the thought was back then, why send missionaries there if the people can't go to church, or get baptized? There are a lot of members there, maybe around 30 but most of them come to church one time every month because of the travel.
Well this week, Elder Garcia and I had permission to go to the island. We saw that there is a lot of potential there, and so when we talked to our mission president, he was open to the idea of opening a group there. I'm telling you, if we had a group there, 20-30 non-members would go to church. So our goal is now to obtain permission from the stake president to start a group. It's been exciting but really stressful especially because our mission president is coming to the island in March. So we have a lot of coordination to prepare, Like where will we hold sacrament on Rapu-Rapu? The person that will preside is the 2nd counselor in the branch. Anyway can't wait to update y'all hahaha.
Wet road:
We have an area that is a 2 hour and 45 minute walk. Literally, so far and we don't have bikes yet. So while we were walking about 1 hour and 30 minutes in, we saw the path was flooded. I thought it was just a little flood until it reached all the way up to my knees. We still had 1 hour left, then 3 hours to walk back and my shoes are wet, same with my pants and socks. So I bought some sandals for 190 ₽ or 4$ dollars. When we got back to the apartment I was more sore then when Blaine made us do 5K's at the olympic oval, and that's saying something. That sleep was the best hahahaha.
Send me an email if you have time, especially kasi valentines araw at wala akong iba. Ako lang po.
Have a great week,
Elder Spackman
