Week 8 ~ RIP My Hair, Manila Week 1 of 3

Image
Hello friends and family! This week's email is going to be really long because a lot happened so if you don't have time you can just look at the photos. Also, I still have three weeks in Manila; I leave for the field on December 12th. Alright here we go -  Tuesday : Took the bus to the FrontRunner, then went to the Salt Lake Airport, waited for three hours, then flew from Salt Lake to San Francisco. After eating some food, flew from San Francisco to Manila.  For those of you who have never been on a flight for 15 hours, it's very long. Especially when you can't fall asleep or watch movies so I looked at the flight map and listened to classical music for 15 hours. The food was not very good to be honest, but the filipinos on the flight were so nice. Let me tell you two things I've observed about the people here: They are soooooo nice and especially if you speak to them in Tagalog. They laugh, but not disrespectfully, our teacher explained to us. No matter how much I ...

Week 7 ~ Final Week!!!!

Hello friends, and now teachers (extra pressure). The final week of Provo MTC has come and gone. In all honesty, this week has gone by so fast, and has been so fun. Fun things:  We may or may not have thrown a small function. Elder Hieslbetz and I were security guards and we had tons of candy and food for our district. Elder Anderson also popped a Martinelli so that was very entertaining to watch. Spiritual things: What I've gotten out of this week and through prayer is how critical it is to trust in the Lord. Because no matter where you are or any stage of life, it's in God's plan. God has a plan for all of us, and ultimately it's up to you what you want to do, but Jesus is always waiting with open arms. Friends, the atonement is so, so powerful and it's not just for forgiveness, it's to help us grow as people. My invitation to everyone reading this is: Think about somebody you might have troubles with, disagree with, don't get along with, and pray for them...

Week 6 ~ Miracles and Fun - One Week Left in America

Hello po, It's Elder Spackman  Friends, it's been a month since I've been in the MTC, and I decided that this is the perfect time to share one of the most powerful things I've ever heard, so lock in everybody. Story time:   Elder Gary E. Stevenson came in and gave an amazing devotional. We knew it was someone in the Quorum of the 12 because the MTC was locked down and every four weeks one of the 12 come in, so we were hyped. My comp Elder Lybbert really wanted Elder Bednar, as he said, "If it's Elder Bednar I'm running up on stage and giving him a hug".  Anyways, this story isn't about the devotional, it's about what happened after. On our floor there is this Elder named Elder Bisinger. This guy was not locked in at all, always on Facebook reels, never went to workshops or anything. These are his words not mine, BTW. He was walking in the MTC campus around 6pm, When Elder Stevenson came up to him and said these words -  What I heard next was no...

Week 5 ~ Day Zero Plague

Image
Hello Everyone! Guess what? I'm currently sick, unfortunately. Some disease has been going around the MTC and has unfortunately struck our room. First it was poor Elder Smart, then Elder Bray, Elder Smith and me, and finally my companion, Elder Lybbert. So now we are all sick, but it's chill because guess what we've got on our side? God. Even though we are all sick it doesn't distract from the Spirit and power of prayer. You can pray for anything and I know God hears you and knows you. I promise that as you pray you will feel Heavenly Father's influence in your life, your gratitude for him will increase, therefore Increasing your joy! There is great joy in the gospel, my friends! Fun things: We made a sauna, and you are probably asking yourself, "How does one make a sauna in the MTC?". Well let me tell you: your companion has to be a genius and determined. My comp took the shower curtains off a stall and then attached them to the top of the room where the ...
